FULLERTON, CA — Local police are seeking a suspect at large after a woman was sexually attacked on the Cal State Fullerton Main Campus overnight.

The victim was a student who was walking to the parking structure around midnight. She got onto the elevator and "felt a presence behind her" before the attack, police said.

According to Capt. Scot Willey of the Cal State Fullerton Police, an unknown man "grabbed her by the neck" and attacked her inside an elevator at the Nutwood parking structure at approximately 1 a.m., campus police Capt. Willey reported Wednesday.

"She was able to fight her way away from the suspect, and fled," Willey said. Campus police are reviewing surveillance from the time of the attack and are seeking the suspect.

The suspect was described as a white man, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds, with brown, shoulder-length hair, police said.

He was wearing a navy blue T-shirt and black shorts.

"There were no elevator cameras, but there are several in the area," he said. "We hope to have a sketch out later today," Willey said.

The unidentified victim is currently with her family and is being offered services and support by the university.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call campus police at 657-278-2515; or if they see the suspect, call 911.

Expect a significant presence of campus police for the near future. Also, police are available to provide escorts to any students who feel unsafe.

"This is typically a very safe campus," he said. "We are a small city of 40,000 students, and this is highly out of the ordinary for our school."

The college has said that they will "cover the cost for all Rape Aggression Defense" classes for all tuition students in the fall of 2019.
