Alert Peninsula Resident Credited With Stopping Burglars
"This was an outstanding example of how an alert citizen recognized suspicious activity in his neighborhood and took the appropriate action"

REDWOOD CITY, CA- Redwood City police are crediting an “alert citizen” with helping them catch three suspected burglars accused of ransacking a local home.
According to the police department, officers ultimately arrested three men in a search of a Redwood City neighborhood after a burglary Tuesday afternoon. It all started when a neighbor spotted someone hopping a fence at an unoccupied home in the 1200 block of Foothill Street at about 2:30 p.m., police Lt. Sean Hart said.
“He immediately called 911 and provided Redwood City Police dispatchers with a description of the subject and the vehicle,” Hart said in a news release.

Officers responded and found one suspect still outside in a car. Then, they made their way to the home.
“The citizen directed officers to the area where he saw the subject jump the fence and officers established a perimeter around the area,” Hart said. “Officers checked the residence and discovered a rear window had been smashed out and it appeared the subject(s) had entered the residence.”

Police arrested the suspect in the car and shut down area streets while searching for the other two suspects, asking residents to stay indoors, Hart said.
They eventually found the other two suspects in a yard-to-yard search, Hart said. Officers also found a gun in one of the yards but they have not determined if the burglars had it or if it was stolen from the home.
The search was concluded by about 4 p.m.
The three suspects were identified as:
- Tyson Garcia, 18 year-old, Mountain View resident (pictured above, right)
- Keanu Otero Tejada, 18 year-old, East Palo Alto resident (pictured above, middle)
- Gianni Monterrosa, 18 year-old, Hayward resident (pictured above, left)
“This was an outstanding example of how an alert citizen recognized suspicious activity in his neighborhood and took the appropriate action and notified the police,” Hart said. “The Redwood City Police Department would like to recognize and thank this citizen for his outstanding observations and his ability to remain calm and provide police with the information needed to apprehend these suspects.”
