Alleged Drive-By Shooting Motorist, 18, Pleads Not Guilty

DALY CITY, CA — An 18-year-old man accused of driving a vehicle involved in a drive-by shooting last week in Daly City has pleaded not guilty, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.
Four juvenile suspects were in the car with Jacob Tadashi Simonson on Thursday when one of the vehicle's occupants allegedly shot at a group of people after an argument, prosecutors said.
A 19-year-old was transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds to the wrist, abdomen and calf.

Police in the area heard the shot, responded to the scene and witnessed Simonson's vehicle leaving the scene at a high speed. They stopped the vehicle and detained Simonson and the four juvenile passengers.
Simonson has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an occupied vehicle or dwelling and being an accessory after the fact. He remains in custody on $200,000 bail, and is scheduled to return to court at 9 a.m. Jan. 22.

Defense attorney Paula Canny did not respond to a request for comment on her client's behalf.
