Alleged DUI Driver Crashes Into Pacifica Utility Box: Police

Police said Arnel Molia caused the traffic signals to stop working correctly.

PACIFICA, CA -- A San Mateo man was arrested Friday morning for driving under the influence after he crashed into a traffic signal utility box in Pacifica, police said. At approximately 3:45 a.m. officers were dispatched to the intersection of state Highway 1 and Rockaway Beach Avenue.

Investigators said the alleged driver, 24-year-old Arnel Molia, caused the traffic signals to stop working correctly, according to police.

Officers contacted the motorist on scene and observed symptoms of intoxication. After more examination, they determined the driver had been drinking alcohol and was placed under arrest.

The traffic utility box that Molia hit and disabled was Caltrans property. They were notified of the damage and traffic signals were restored to proper functionality around 6:25 a.m. this morning, according to police.
