Cut Your Own Christmas Tree
There are plenty of tree farms in the Bay Area, or head to the mountains to cut a tree on federal land, with the right permit.
I have fond memories of traipsing all over mountainsides searching for the perfect Christmas trees to cut down for our family. I always loved our trees. My neighbor and friend, Mary, would invariably call them 'Charlie Brown trees' but I didn't care.
If you're more interested in family memories than perfection, pack some hot cocoa and a lunch, head to the mountains or a tree farm and make some memories.
