Sponsored by the Pacifica Historical Society
Gaspar de Portola and his expedition were the first Europeans to see San Francisco Bay. They saw it not from a ship but from Sweeney Ridge in Pacifica.Come to the Pacifica Community Center to learn some history. Then hike from the top of Fassler Avenue up to the "Discovery Site", about 2 miles uphill with (hopefully) beautiful views of the coast (assuming it is not foggy).
If you are unable to hike, you may join a caravan of cars to be guided by a ranger through the gate and up to the top of Sweeney Ridge from the San Bruno side.
