Driver Plunges Off Steep Cliff Near Devil's Slide: CHP

CHP officials said that a witness saw the crash and called 911 to get the driver help.

PACIFICA, CA — A driver was injured when he plunged off a cliff along state Highway 1 this morning near the Devil's Slide tunnel, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

"He went off a steep cliff," said CHP Officer Vu Williams. "A witness saw it and called (911)."

A number of first responders reported to the scene, including the CHP. The highway was put under one-way traffic control between Montara State Beach and Gray Whale Cove around 8:30 a.m.

The driver was taken to the hospital for injuries not thought to be life-threatening. He was the only person in the vehicle, Williams said.
