Duplex Fire Displaces 32 On Peninsula

DALY CITY, CA – Thirty-two residents of a three-story duplex and four nearby houses in Daly City were displaced from their homes Saturday afternoon by a structure fire, according to the Daly City-based North County Fire Authority.

Sixteen fire companies responded to the duplex in the 500 block of Sylvan Street about 4:07 p.m. Saturday, according to a fire authority statement.

Firefighters found thick black smoke coming from the rear yard of the duplex. Flames and heat from the rear deck and yard area of the duplex ignited the rear of the two adjacent homes on Sylvan Street and to the rear
of two homes on Lisbon Street.

There were no injuries to any of the firefighters or residents.

Firefighters remained on the scene for over five hours checking for flare-ups and doing mop-up operations, fire officials said. Fifteen of the 32 displaced residents sought help from the American Red Cross, and the
rest made their own housing arrangements.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation by the North County Fire Prevention Services Bureau.
