Creating a backyard Habitat for Birds and Pollinators

Jim Howard, District Conservationist for USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service will be the featured speaker at the May meeting. Jim has served as District Conservationist since 2005. He provides conservation technical assistance to farmers, ranchers, landowners, agencies, non-government organizations, and other conservation partners. Prior to his service with the NRCS he spent 15 years managing ecosystem restoration projects. He has worked for the U.S. Peace Corps, the private timber industry, two Resource Conservation Districts, the National Park Service, and the U.S. Forest Service. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Forest Management from Humboldt State University and a master’s degree in Water Resources Management from Duke University. Jim will be speaking to the Club about pollinator conservation including native bees, insects, and all the other things that contribute to our ecosystem function. He will discuss rain gardening, recycle/reuse, runoff management, gray water, and whatever else we can throw at him.
