Grand Opening of Plato's Closet in Pacifica
Local Entrepreneurs Open Popular Teen and Twenty-Something Retail Store that Recycles Fashion at a Discount

Local teens and twenty-somethings now have a place that not only puts cash back into their pockets, but sells gently-used brand-name clothing and accessories for less!
The new Plato’s Closet® at 110 Eureka Square in the Sharp Park area of Pacifica is opening on Saturday, December 27 at 10 a.m. Specializing in gently used name brand casual clothing and accessories for teens and twenty-somethings, the hip, trendy clothing store buys and sells guys and girls gently-used, brand-name clothing and accessories, including: shoes, belts, purses, and jewelry, among other items.
Local owners Chris and Nicole Zimdars opened their first Plato’s Closet in San Mateo in 2008 after Nicole traded in her desk job for the chance to open her own used clothing store. The Zimdars were inspired by the environmental aspects of the business and the benefits of reducing consumption by recycling unused clothing. Sales took off at their San Mateo location and they are hoping to continue that success in their hometown of Pacifica. “It’s great having a store in our home town, especially since Pacifica is starving for retail. I think people will appreciate having a new option to avoid a shopping trip ‘over the hill’,” said Chris.

Unlike a typical consignment store, no appointment is necessary to sell clothing and accessories to Plato’s Closet. Plus, the store pays cash on the spot for goods it purchases from consumers. Typically, Plato’s Closet buys casual wear that has been in retail stores within the past 12-to-18 months and are current styles seen in the mall.
“Plato’s Closet fills a distinct niche in the retail market,” Nicole Zimdars said. “We are a part of a unique retail resale business that specializes in the teen and young adult market segment. The great thing about the concept is that consumers are always looking for ways to stretch their dollar and Plato’s Closet lets them save money in two ways. Customers can achieve savings up to 70 percent off trendy, brand-name clothing and accessories. Plus, they can receive cash on the spot for gently-used items that are outgrown or no longer wanted.”
