Massive Gun, Drug Bust Follows SMC Identity Theft Investigation: Police

An arrest for drug use led to bring down a major illegal gun and drug manufacturing operation.

DALY CITY, CA β€” A narcotics arrest in Daly City quickly escalated into a major investigation, culminating in the seizure of approximately 11 guns, including multiple 3D-printed weapons, and the arrest of four people in San Francisco, police announced Friday.

At around 4 p.m. on Feb. 16, officers said they received a call about someone using drugs in a Daly City shopping center parking lot.

Police said they found a 42-year-old man inside a car and arrested him for possession of various controlled substances.

A further investigation into the suspect’s car revealed it had been fraudulently purchased using the registered owner's identity, police said. This finding allowed detectives to identify a suspect and link the identity theft and fraud case to a residence in San Francisco, police said.

Detectives secured an arrest warrant for fraud and a search warrant for the San Francisco residence.

On Wednesday, investigators said they served the warrant and found drugs, guns, and firearm manufacturing equipment, including a 3D printer. Police seized 11 guns, among them several 3D-printed firearms and rifle components.

Four individuals present at the scene were arrested and booked into county jail in connection with the operation.

The investigation is ongoing.
