Pacifica School District 6th Grade Lottery Info/Tour Dates

PACIFICA SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNOUNCES THAT 6^TH GRADE ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2020-2021 BEGINS THIS MONTH.

Students must reside within the Pacifica School District boundaries on the day of the lottery in order to participate in the lottery – and must continue to live in the Pacifica School District when school begins unless an interdistrict transfer agreement is approved by PSD and the district of residence.

Currently enrolled students will attend sixth grade at either Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School or one of the K-8 schools (Cabrillo, Ocean Shore or Vallemar). In most cases, where your child will attend sixth grade is determined by where s/he is now. Students completing the 5th grade at a PSD TK-5 school shall be guaranteed a space for the 6th grade at Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School. Students currently enrolled at Cabrillo School, Vallemar School or Ocean Shore School shall be guaranteed a space in that program through the 8th grade.

By the last school day in November, letters and transfer request forms will be mailed to all current fifth graders in district, and district residents on the wait list but attending out of district, offering the opportunity to request a transfer.

Because the Pacifica School District is a district of choice, there are other options. Parents of fifth graders at a K-8 school who wish to transfer to Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School or another K-8 school for sixth grade must submit a Sixth Grade Request to Transfer form to the district office at 375 Reina del Mar, Pacifica no later than 4:30 pm January 29, 2020. Parents of fifth graders at a TK-5 school who wish to transfer to a K-8 school for sixth grade must submit a Sixth Grade Request to Transfer form to the district office at 375 Reina del Mar, Pacifica no later than 4:30 pm January 29, 2020. Current fifth grade wait lists do not roll over to sixth grade. Please make note of the ID number on the Request to Transfer form as this number will be used during the lottery process.

If the number of requests for transfer exceeds the number of spaces available for any given site, a lottery for the available spaces will be held on January 31, 2020, 3:00 pm in the District Office Board Room.

Parents are encouraged to participate in tours of schools with grades 6, 7 and 8 to help determine the best choice for their child. Tours last approximately 1 hour. Tours are listed below; please call schools directly to sign up for a tour of the middle school grades.
A tour of Ocean Shore is highly recommended before selecting that site as a choice due to the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) component of this program.
