Pacifica Woman Admits Embezzling $180,000 From Private High School

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A Pacifica woman charged with embezzling from a volunteer committee at San Francisco's Saint Ignatius High School pleaded guilty to theft this week and has agreed to pay restitution.

Cynthia Mauer entered the guilty plea on Monday and paid $250,000 to the private Catholic high school, an amount that includes restitution of $180,000 and $70,000 in interest, according to court records.

As part of a plea deal, she is also expected to receive five years probation and 1,000 hours community service, with sentencing scheduled for July 13.

Mauer, whose children attended the school, was charged in April of 2016 with theft and embezzlement for allegedly taking more than $180,000 from a parent committee she co-chaired between September of 2007 and February 2012.

The committee organized the school's Grad Night, an event for graduating seniors.
