VTO for a production does more than just press "Play" and "Record". Instructions for this position includes steps necessary to prepare videotape machines for recording, and to verify that a good recording of the program is made. Videotape playback, or "roll-in", is also covered, which includes the use of time-base correctors, or TBCs. The VTO is also taught how to correctly label tapes after the show, including the tape run time "TRT"
