Property Crime Up in Pacifica in 2012

Burglaries increased in Pacifica in 2012, according to a recently released FBI report. Use the grey scroll bars to see all the data.

Pacifica police reported 42 violent crimes in 2012. That’s a maintained level from the 44 violent crimes reported in 2011.

The number of property crimes, however, went up, from 484 in 2011 to 578 last year. Motor vehicle theft did not increase, but burglaries jumped from 89 in 2011 to 148 in 2012.

The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.

The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments. Pacifica has 33 officers for 38,041 residents. That's 1 sworn officer for every 1,151 residents.

Note: Half Moon Bay and the unincorporated towns of the San Mateo County Coast were not included in the report due to underreported data.
