Pacifica Co-op Nursery School hosts Second Annual Rainbow Fest
On April 24th, the Pacifica Co-op Nursery School hosted it's spring fundraiser for the second year, drawing in a crowd of preschoolers, their families, and the Pacifica community. Children spent the afternoon bouncing from one activity to the next: from petting and feeding goats to throwing pottery, from yoga and karate to arts and crafts, from playing musical instruments to watching a puppet show. This year included catering from one of Pacifica's up and coming businesses, Assemble To Order Catering, with flavorful menu options - starring pulled pork sandwiches and barbecued corn - that satisfied patrons of all ages. Charity and the JAMband brought down the house with a live performance of their many hits like "Lemonade" and "We Are The Ones" from their Family Values album. Kids danced, wiggled, and sang along right up to the last note of the afternoon.
So what was the crowd favorite? Otto, who attends the co-op, had a clear answer when asked what the best part of Rainbow Fest was. "My favorite part was the tie dye station. I used all the colors, even fuchsia!" His colleague, Scarlett, said "I love Rainbow Fest! I wish we could do it everyday and I loved everything equal."
A lucky few went home as winners of the Co-op's highly anticipated big ticket raffle. Seven prizes, each valued between $1,000 to $5,000, included a week in Maui, a week in Mexico, tickets to Disneyland and Legoland, two nights at the Coastanoa Resort in Pescadero, a high end tourist overnight in San Francisco, a package of gift certificates to the hottest restaurants and business on the coast, and a Ladies Lux package designed to pamper and promote wellness.

An event focused on fun and games is a natural fit for this play-based preschool but at it's heart, Rainbow Fest is about supporting a school that has been a part of our community for 55 years, educating generation after generation of Pacifica's youth. Catherine Miller, director of the school believes that "The most rewarding part of rainbow fest is knowing that it is for the children. A vision of wholesome activities for close to 100 children on a windy Sunday afternoon . It brought tears to my eyes to see so many children having a whimsical time together. In addition, knowing that the parents of the Co-op made this event come alive due to their hard work and commitment to the little rainbow school, makes me very proud to be the director of the Pacifica Co-op nursery school." Money raised from this event goes directly into the school's scholarship fund, staff development, technology refresh, and programs so the school can continue to provide creative, quality education to local families.
The Pacifica Co-op Nursery School volunteer board extends a huge thank you to all of the donors and sponsors of Rainbow Fest, especially Assemble to Order Catering, Len Stone Real Estate Group and Almanac Beer Co. And with that, we close the books on another successful Rainbow Fest. Hope you have a happy day!
