SMC Man ID'd In Deadly Cliff Fall After Trying To Rescue Dog
Officials said the man was trying to rescue his dog when he tragically fell to his death.

DALY CITY, CA — A San Mateo County man died this week when he tried to rescue his dog near a local cliffside, officials report. He's since been identified by the coroner's office as Rodney Vincent Reclus of Daly City. Reclus was 69.
According to the National Park Service, Reclus was trying to save his dog when he fell down a cliff near the southern end of the Fort Funston area at around 11:10 a.m. Monday. Initial reports indicated that the tragedy happened in San Francisco, but it's since been clarified that it was in Daly City.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter helped lift Reclus from the cliffside to a parking area.

Park service officials said Monday they were continuing to investigate the fatal fall. Additional details about the incident were not immediately available.
