Spindrift Theater Yellow-Tagged by City of Pacifica as Unsafe

Upcoming production 'Noise's Off' forced to find new venue.

During a recent rehearsal for “Noises Off,” a comedy being staged by the Pacifica Spindrift Players, roofers doing minor repairs discovered some problems with the support beams, making the building unsafe.

Structural engineers were called in, and the City of Pacifica yellow-tagged the theater. No one can enter the building except construction and theater administrators, explained box officer manager Ruth Amber.

As a result, rehearsals for the production are taking place in the gallery portion of the building, she said.

In the meantime, the “Noises Off” cast, director Debi Durst and producer Barbara Williams scrambled to secure a new venue for the production, which opens Aug. 30.

As of Thursday, it was confirmed that the production will now be staged at Serramonte Del Rey in Daly City, said Amber. The venue is a former high school in the Jefferson School District, which has a theater.

The Spindrift Players plan to repair the theater and move back in but at this time there is no indication of when or how much the repairs will cost. Building manager Gary Pugh Newman is yet to return a call requesting comment.

Pacifica Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.
