TRAFFIC ALERT: San Mateo-Hayward Bridge Lane Closures Scheduled for Next 5 Nights
A hole opened up on the bridge last month on the westbound deck and was exposing the Bay underneath the bridge, Caltrans says.

Bay Area, CA – Starting Tuesday night, Caltrans crews will close two westbound lanes of the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge for five consecutive nights as they work to fix a hole that was discovered on the bridge.
The hole opened up last month on the westbound deck and was exposing the Bay underneath the bridge, according to Caltrans spokesman Bob Haus.
After discovering the hole, crews initially installed a metal plate on the bridge deck. The repair, however, was only temporary, Caltrans officials said.
