Pali Takes Six Points on the Road

Los Angeles, Calif. (June 3, 2013) – The Pali Blues (2-1-0) returned to action with two road games over the weekend taking on the Bay Area Breeze (1-1-1) on Friday, May 31, and the Santa Clarita Blue Heat (1-2-0) on Sunday, June 2. The Blues defeated the Breeze 4-0, and finished the weekend off with a 6-1 victory over the Blue Heat. With the two victories, the Blues take sole possession of first place in the Western Conference.

On Friday, after almost two weeks without playing a league match, the Blues bounced back from a defeat in their first game of the season to shut out the Breeze 4-0. The first goal was scored by Ashley Nick in the opening minute of the match with Sarah Killion earning the assist. Lynn Williams added two more in the 35th and 70th minutes of the game, while Abby Dahlkemper sealed it with a goal assisted by Satara Murray in the 89th minute.

The Blues returned to Southern California for an away match versus the Santa Clarita Blue Heat on Sunday with a goal of taking three more points.

It didn’t take long for the Blues to open the scoring at Santa Clarita. Just one minute into the match, Ashley Freyer carried the ball down the right side of the field and found Elizabeth Eddy inside the penalty area. Eddy then dribbled towards the middle and shot the ball past goalkeeper Cynthia Jacobo.

In the 17th minute, Killion served a cross into the box that resulted in a goal from Ashley Nick. Samantha Mewis made it 3-0 in the 36th minute before the half ended. Half-time substitute Williams started the second half with a goal right off the kick off.

The Blues started slowing down, and the Blue Heat took advantage of it. Ana Borges found an opportunity to out-run the defense and shot the ball past Roxanne Barker to make it 4-1.

After a few changes, the Blues regained their dominance in the game and helped Killion and Williams scored one more goal each to finish end the game at 6-1.

With the pair of victories over the weekend, the Blues moved up to first place with six points.

Pali will host the Colorado Rapids on Thursday, June 6, at Occidental College. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. PT. Fans can purchase tickets at bluessoccerclub.com/tickets or by calling 310-777-7897.
