Rosendahl, LAFD Want Weather Station in Mandeville Canyon Area
Funding proposal for the project aimed to serve Pacific Palisades, Brentwood and Mountaingate will be placed on the next regular city council agenda.
The Los Angeles City Council set an agenda item introduced by Councilman Bill Rosendahl for monies toward a 20-foot weather station in Mandeville Canyon for firefighters to serve to better monitor prime conditions for brush fires.
The Council Office is jump-starting the project with more than half of the funding and is seeking support from the affected community for the remaining portion, according to spokesman Tony Arranaga on the 11th Council District's blog.
"With the installation of this critical weather station, the LAFD will be able to make more precise pre-deployment decisions and commit additional fire resources to the Westside when there is a serious potential for a brush fire," said Rosendahl.

The Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS), for the high risk fire weather communities of Pacific Palisades, Brentwood and Mountaingate, costs approximately $19,300 and has an annual maintenance cost of $800 per unit. Rosendahl said the goal is the place it out of view and below a ridge top.
LAFD reportedly identified Mandeville Canyon as one of four critical locations in the city.
