US Department of Health awards LAUSD Large Grant for Medicare and Medicaid Outreach

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Unified School District was awarded nearly $1 million to inform eligible students about opportunities to sign up for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health announced Monday.
The nation's second-largest school district will use the $999,039 grant from the HHS' Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to reach out to an estimated 750,000 students who may be eligible to apply for the programs.
Information about the health insurance and Medicaid programs will also be made available in several languages in students' enrollment packets. The district is also planning to enlist students and parents to do in-person outreach.

The Children's Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, is available to students from households with incomes that are too high to be eligible for Medicaid.
The LAUSD was among 38 grant recipients in 27 states that received a total of $32 million to promote the Medicaid and CHIP programs.
