Tour De Palm Springs Returns Saturday, CHP Out In Force
Dillion Road will be closed from Thousand Palms to Berdoo Canyons from 7 a.m. to noon for the bike race.
PALM SPRINGS, CA — Thousands of bikers will take to the streets of Palm Springs on Saturday as a part of the Tour De Palm Springs charity event.
The event will start at 6:30 a.m. at Palm Canyon Drive between Baristo Road and Tahquitz Canyon Way, and will include a number of routes ranging from one to 100 miles across the valley.
Tour de Palm Springs is a Coachella Valley Serving People in Need organized event designed to raise money for nonprofit organizations in the Coachella Valley. Each year the organizers endeavor to support almost 100 local charities with money raised.

As a result of the event, the California Highway Patrol's Indio-area office will increase the number of officers on patrol to ensure the safety of all participants as well as motorists, according to Officer Jackie Quintero.
On top of increased CHP coverage, Dillion Road will be closed from Thousand Palms to Berdoo Canyons from 7 a.m. to noon.

Quintero reminded motorists to reduce their speed near participating bicyclists due to air currents created by vehicles that can push bikes over. California law also requires a minimum distance of three feet when passing a bicyclist.
Bicyclists are required to ride in a single-file line on the right edge of the road and are also required to obey the same traffic laws as motor vehicles. They must stop at stop signs and red lights and must yield right of way at intersections to oncoming traffic.
