Blown Transformers Lead To Road Closure In Palm Desert

A stretch of Cook Street was shut down Tuesday morning, officials said.

PALM DESERT, CA — An electrical transformer malfunction knocked out to more than 1,500 customers Tuesday morning and triggered the closure of a Palm Desert roadway.

The outage began just after 7 a.m. when components failed in an electrical transformer in the area of Cook Street and Fred Waring Drive, according to Southern California Edison and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Just over 1,500 customers initially lost power, but electricity was quickly restored to most of them, Southern California Edison spokeswoman Mary Ann Milbourn said. She said 236 customers were still without power as of 11:30 a.m. and the utility company hoped to have them back online by Tuesday evening, Milbourn said
