Car Plunges Off I-10, Driver Airlifted With Major Injuries

Authorities are investigating to determine what caused a car to veer off the I-10 west of Desert Center Saturday morning.

DESERT CENTER, CA — A motorist was critically injured Saturday in a crash on Interstate 10 just west of Desert Center, requiring the patient to be airlifted to a hospital.

The crash was reported at about 4 a.m. on eastbound I-10, near Eagle Mountain Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said the car went off of the roadway, but it was unclear whether it rolled. No other details were immediately available.

Fire crews reached the location a short time later and found the victim, identified only as an adult, suffering major injuries. A Mercy Air Ambulance was summoned and airlifted the party to a regional trauma center for treatment.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating the cause of the crash.
