Coachella Pickpocketer Nabbed With 100+ Devices At Festival: Police

Police have identified the suspected thief as a New Yorker.

INDIO, CA – A man was caught with more than 100 stolen cell phones at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival over the weekend thanks to the efforts of attendees who enabled a popular application, police report. 'Find My iPhone' ultimately helped police find dozens of pilfered devices.

New York resident Reinaldo De Jesus Henao, 36, was arrested at 5:50 p.m. Friday at the festival grounds, located at 81500 Avenue 51, according to the Indio Police Department.

"During the concert several people notices their phones were missing and immediately activated the 'Find My Phone' feature of their phone," Indio police Sgt. Dan Marshall said in a news release. "Several victims followed Henao through the venue who was quickly detained by security until law enforcement officers could arrive."

Responding officers allegedly found a backpack with over 100 cell phones in Henao's possession, according to Marshall.

Several of the cell phones were returned to the victims. The remaining devices were turned into the festival's lost and found where they can be reclaimed.

Henao was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Center on suspicion of grand theft and receiving stolen property. He was released after posting $10,000 bail, according to inmate records.

Police suggested that festivalgoers keep their phones and wallets in their front pockets and to spread their valuables across different locations.
