COD Remembers Two Grads Lost on 9/11
A memorial service and vigil honored two College of the Desert graduates who were two of the firemen killed in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
Over 120 people attended a 9/11 Vigil and Memorial on Monday night at the campus in Palm Desert.
The outdoor program honored New York City firemen James Gray and Daniel Suhr, who lost their lives while saving others at the World Trade Center.
Palm Springs Fire Department captain John Allen said he feels connected to the fallen firemen.

“I did not know James Gray or Daniel Suhr, but they were both my brothers. All 343 firefighters [that lost their lives] were my family, and the service, like you, pay their respects this evening. Ten years is a long time. Wounds heal, but the scars will always be present.”
The 45-minute ceremony featured locally elected officials and notables, along with a stirring musical performance from COD graduate Jamila Sylvester.

The majority of the crowd were students, who arrived just after 7:30 p.m. as their classes concluded.
