Cornerstone Covenant Church To Move Into New Home Easter Sunday

Pastor to preside over official ribbon-cutting ceremony next Wednesday.

Cornerstone Covenant Church will celebrate the official opening of its new house of worship at 73-605 Dinah Shore Dr. in Palm Desert on Easter Sunday, April 30.

The new facility comes after the church spent five years meeting in the La Quinta High School Theater, according to Pastor Chris Hushaw.

“We are so excited to finally have our own church home,” the pastor said. “We look forward to expanding our church family, as well as our community outreach with this strong foundation to work from.”

Hushaw noted that the church has plans for a series of special events preceding the official opening, including a concert, a tea in honor of mothers, a special outreach visit to a housing development in Thermal and a formal ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20.

Under the theme “Come Grow with Us,” Hushaw said he will also be presenting a special sermon each Sunday through May 15.

Morning services will also feature the Cornerstone Choir, special performers, speakers, multi-media presentations and interactive components, he added.

Hushaw noted that the congregation, which currently serves 250 friends and members, has grown from an initial group of just 35.

“This move to a permanent location will also enable Cornerstone to add to their existing programs,” he said. “Initial plans include a food pantry and clothing closet for the community, weekday childcare and more programs for youth and children, in addition to a coffee house café area.”

The church is affiliated with the Evangelical Covenant Church, which affirms the Bible as the word of God, but allows congregants the freedom to have varying interpretations on issues that are not clearly presented in the Bible.
