State Assembly members Mayes (R-Yucca Valley) and Garcia (D-Coachella) presented university officials with a $3,000,000 check.

PALM DESERT, CA – Two Coachella Valley lawmakers who lobbied for funding to aid the expansion of the Cal State San Bernardino-Palm Desert campus presented a $3 million check to the school Tuesday.

Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, D-Coachella and Chad Mayes, R-Yucca Valley, presented the check to Dr. Ward Fredericks, president of the PDC Advancement Board during a ceremony.

The presentation commemorates $3 million in one-time funding included in the 2017-18 California state budget.

After acquiring around 120 acres in land in 2015, the school unveiled its draft expansion master plan, calling for at least nine new academic buildings to accommodate around 7,000 more students.

"Investments in higher education serve as a catalyst for future prosperity," Garcia said shortly after the funding was acquired this summer. "This infusion of state dollars will go a long way in boosting economic development and broadening educational opportunities within this region."
