Deputies Destroy 11,000 Marijuana Plants Discovered In Mecca

The plants were found Tuesday at a property in the 70-100 block of Johnson Street.

MECCA, CA — Deputies serving a search warrant Tuesday at an unpermitted marijuana grow in Mecca chopped down more than 11,000 plants, weighing more than a ton and a half.

The operation got underway at 6 a.m. at a property in the 70-100 block of Johnson Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Sgt. Mariano Matos III said deputies cut down 11,169 plants, and discovered about 500 pounds of processed cannabis.

No arrests were made.

Sheriff's officials urged residents to report any similar illegal grows by calling the Thermal Sheriff's Station at 760-863-8990. Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP (7867).
