Duck Hunter Stranded On Salton Sea Rescued By Coast Guard Helicopter

The man was adrift in a shallow area about 300 feet off the northwest shore, according to authorities.

SALTON SEA, CA — A duck hunter who became stranded on a small boat in the Salton Sea was rescued over the weekend by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and sent to an area hospital in serious but stable condition, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Rescue efforts for the man began around 11:38 p.m. Friday. He was adrift in a shallow area about 300 feet off the northwest shore, according to the fire department.

A watercraft rescue was attempted but the Coast Guard was called in to do a hoist rescue, the fire department reported.

Early Saturday morning the fire department confirmed the rescue was successful and the man was sent by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital. An update on his condition was unavailable.

It's unclear how the man became stranded or for how long. According to Cal Fire, he was duck hunting the day before he was rescued.
