DUI Checkpoint In Coachella Valley Yields 5 Arrests, 11 Citations
Officers ran the checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., looking for intoxicated, impaired, and unlicensed drivers.

COACHELLA, CA — The Riverside County Sheriff's Department screened over 750 cars Friday night into early Saturday morning in Coachella, with five DUI arrests and 11 citations issued at the Driving Under the Influence and Drivers License inspection checkpoint, they announced in a recent news release.
Officers held the checkpoint between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., and in total, authorities made five DUI arrests and cited 11 drivers for driver's license offenses.

- 11 citations for unlicensed/suspended drivers
- 5 driving under the influence arrests
- 1 misdemeanor arrest of resisting or delaying a Peace Officer
- 1 misdemeanor arrest for public intoxication
- 1 misdemeanor arrest warrant served
- 3 citations were issued for vehicle code violations
- 1 vehicle was towed
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
