DUI Checkpoint In Palm Springs Friday: Designate A Sober Driver
A first-time DUI charge could cost drivers about $13,500 in fines and penalties, according to police.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — The Palm Springs Police Department planned to conduct a DUI checkpoint Friday evening at an undisclosed location within the city.
From 7 p.m. until 1 a.m. police will hold the checkpoint "in area with a notable number of impaired driving-related crashes, according to the police department."
"Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk," Sgt. Kevin Lu said in a statement. "Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety."

Impaired driving includes driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, some prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs.
According to police, a first-time DUI charge could result in about $13,500 in fines and penalties, and impaired drivers could also have their licenses suspended.
