Earthquake Rattles Coachella Valley, Riverside County

BORREGO SPRINGS, CA — An earthquake struck near Borrego Springs in Riverside County just before 11:45 a.m. Monday with a preliminary magnitude of 3.3 with no reports of injuries or damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the temblor was centered 9.6 miles north of Borrego Springs in San Diego County -- and 19.1 miles south-southwest of La Quinta, 22.5 miles south of Palm Desert and 23.3 miles south-southwest of Coachella.

According to the USGS Did You Feel It map, the quake was felt from Indio to Temecula and Murrieta to Escondido.

It was about 2.5 miles deep, according to the USGS.
