This August 14 & 15 the hit LGBTQ play ELECTRICITY: The Play will celebrate their one-year anniversary performances at INNdulge Resort! The critically-acclaimed production of ELECTRICITY, a new American play written and starring TERRY RAY (“My Sister is So Gay”) and co-starring MEL ENGLAND (“Best Day Ever”), moved to Palm Springs one year ago after a run in Los Angeles.

Terry Ray (actor, writer and producer) talk a bit of the shows anniversary: "In August of 2017 we experimented with performing ELECTRICITY inside a real hotel room. I'm thrilled that a year later we are still doing it. In the past 12 months we've also performed the show in beautiful theaters in Columbus and Minneapolis, as well as a special performance in Los Angeles and so far twice for Broadway producers in New York City--but there's nothing like doing the play in the hotel room. It's a magical immersive experience for us as actors and from the amazing feedback we receive I believe it's a magical experience for the audience as well. By just being in the room, so close and intimate the audience can't help but become part of this funny and moving love story. Whether or not if the play continues to get bookings across the country or even an Off-Broadway run, I hope we can always come back to feed our souls by intimately sharing this story inside a hotel room in Palm Springs.”

“It’s been amazing do this in Palm Springs.” added actor Mel England (shows co-star) “Our audiences have been international — from Australia to Europe, Canada to Brazil — guys from all over the world have seen this show and relate in a personal and powerful way. The Gay journey actually is universal."

This exclusive Palm Springs engagement of ELECTRICITY at the INNdulge Resort is the ONLY venue where it's performed in an actual hotel room. The audience sits inside a real hotel room with the actors as the comedy/drama plays all around them. The evening begins with an interactive reception at 7:30p.m,, and the play begins at 8:00 p.m., running 90 minutes with no intermission. As the audience enters the hotel lobby at 7:30p.m. it’s 1983, and they become part of The Chillicothe High School Class of 1973 Ten Year Reunion. They mingle with their fellow “classmates,” and then head to the hotel room, where they become flies on the wall as the story unfolds around them.

ELECTRICITY explores the journey of two gay men, Gary and Brad, who hook up in a motel room after their tenth high school reunion in small-town Ohio. Gary is so closeted that he hides behind an invented wife, and Brad is so reckless that he kills his pain with sex, drugs and alcohol because he can’t see far enough into the future to believe he has one. Despite their differences, they have a connection which draws them back to that same motel room, and to each other, for every successive reunion from 1983 to 2013.

Playwright and veteran actor Terry Ray, who plays Gary, said he wrote this play “to chronicle the journey that so many gay men who came of age in the 1970s and 1980s can readily relate to, the journey from a place where silence sometimes equaled death, to one where equality might just be a reality.”
