Firefighters Airlift 4 Distressed Hikers In Palm Desert

The distressed hikers were the second emergency firefighters responded to in Ladder Canyon Trail in one week.

PALM DESERT, CA — Four hikers were airlifted to safety Thursday afternoon after they reported feeling weak in the Ladder Canyon Trail area of Palm Desert, fire officials said.

According to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, firefighters responded to the emergency call at around 3:25 p.m. California Highway Patrol helicopter H60 was deployed to locate and airlift the distressed hikers to paramedics awaiting their arrival at a landing zone.

The four hikers were evaluated by paramedics at the scene but refused further medical attention.

Ladder Canyon Trail is a popular hiking destination in the Coachella Valley.

Thursday's rescue was similar to a previous emergency call last week when one hiker was rescued by firefighters in Ladder Canyon Trail.
