Idyllwild Arts Academy Cancels L.A. Concert At Disney Hall

Due to fallout from the Cranston Fire, the Aug. 5 performance will not occur, but "Jazz in the Pines" is still on for Aug. 10-12.

IDYLLWILD, CA – Idyllwild Arts Academy has canceled an Aug. 5 performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles due to the aftermath of the Cranston Fire, however the school's 25th annual music festival, Jazz In The Pines, still is scheduled for Aug. 10-12, officials said.

The Cranston Fire burned 13,139 acres, destroyed 12 buildings in the region and led to evacuations, including more than 300 campers from the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program. As of Friday, the blaze was 96 percent contained, authorities said.

"Due to the business interruption, campus evacuation and current infrastructure assessments, IAF must regrettably cancel the final week of the Summer Program, including the culmination performance on Aug. 5th at Walt Disney Concert Hall," a school spokesperson said, adding that while the fire "came eerily close" to the Idyllwild Arts Foundation’s campus, no property was lost and no injuries were reported.

The school, meanwhile, is preparing the campus for Jazz In The Pines, the three-day festival that raises scholarship funds for students to attend Idyllwild Arts Academy and Summer Program. The school annually awards nearly $6 million in scholarships.

The Disney Hall concert was to be a key fundraising event, the spokesperson said. Donations to the Idyllwild Arts scholarship program can be made at www.idyllwildarts.org/giving. To learn more on the upcoming Jazz in the Pines, follow this link.
