Iliza Shlesinger Brings Laughter, Wit To Fantasy Springs Resort Casino

INDIO, CA — Southern California comedian Iliza Shlesinger brings her live comedy show to Riverside County next week. She'll take the stage at 8 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Fantasy Springs Casino Resort, at 84245 Indio Springs Parkway in Indio.

Playing at venues like Fantasy Springs is a treat, she told Patch, due to the broad cross-section of people from all around to see her performance.

It's also close to home.

She recently dished on the upcoming shows and the inspiration for her acts that strikes at odd hours of the night—especially since becoming a mother one year ago.

"I'll have a random thought at 2 a.m. and write it down on a napkin," she told Patch. "Then, when you share that private thought and have thousands of people agree with you in a live performance? It's cathartic. And saying all the things you weren't supposed to say, then getting nothing but love back. That's my favorite part about what I do."

Each show is different based upon the crowd and the material she's working on though the subject matter reflects her life from dating to engagement, marriage to motherhood.

"We're always revamping something from the special and working on the next. There are new jokes, we change up the order, it will be live, unique, different, and the show is never the same."

As well as a busy working mom and wife, Shlesinger is an award-winning comedian, actor, writer, producer, and author who regularly sells out her live shows. But that's just her bio. Underneath, she uses her sharp wit to dish on issues that affect not just women but everyone. Her physical comedy and a broad spectrum of characters and voices are all a lens to explore complex issues that are traditionally taboo.

In this tour, she takes a comedic look at the complexities of women, including "elder millennials" like herself.

"Women have commonalities at any age," she said. "Lately, I've noticed a weird social competition between stay-at-home moms, working moms, women without kids and women with kids. This show focuses on that, too."

She doesn't believe in mass assumptions about either gender and always hopes to tear down stereotypes and expectations in a way that will leave them laughing.

"I know I've done my job when the audience leaves feeling both understood and seen," she said.

"As a new mom, I don't have the energy, but I love playing California and at Fantasy Springs. It's just two hours from home but has the same sales tax."
