Kitty Kelley Brings Sharp Tongue to Palm Desert

World famous gossip's appearance will help raise funds for College of the Desert.

The Auxiliary Foundation Board is offering an afternoon of world-famous gossip to raise money for the COD Foundation.

On Tuesday, March 29 at 4 p.m., best-selling author Kitty Kelley will appear at the Miramonte Resort to discuss Oprah, the Royal Family, and the latest from Washington D.C. The public is invited to the event and the $65 ticket price includes the discussion, a copy of Kelley's Oprah book, and a reception/book signing with wine and hors d' oeuvres.

According to Palm Desert City Councilwoman Jan Harnik, who also sits on the COD Foundation Auxiliary Board and is Chair of the event, the proceeds will go to the COD Foundation and will support specific college needs and/or academic programs.

"For example," Harnik said, "recently the Foundation Auxiliary voted to support a joint effort of COD and Habitat For Humanity, a program developed to expose students to the process of building a home. It provides hands-on experience from start to finish -- from concept to construction to completion."

She said a qualifying family is then selected and able to purchase the house.

"Through this process, a community member is able to become a homeowner, invest in the community and experience the pride of home-ownership,'' Harnik said. "COD students acquire job knowledge and practical and applicable experience."

Harnik says the board chose Kitty for this fundraiser because she is well-known.

"I understand from those who have seen and heard her before that she is entertaining, humorous and engages with the audience in a very personable fashion," she adds.
