Mama Wallaby Shares Her Baby Joey With Living Desert Zoo Crowd
Though there are few signs of spring in Southern California, a baby joey emerged from its mama's pouch this week at The Living Desert Zoo.

PALM DESERT, CA — With the arrival of February came another kind of arrival at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. There, a mama wallaby shared her baby joey with a crowd of zookeepers and onlookers this week.
"This is a significant conservation milestone for the Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby, a near-threatened species, which can only be found in four U.S. zoos," Roxanna Breitigan, COO for the zoo, said in a recent news release. "Born smaller than a jellybean, joeys grow in their mother's pouch until ready to emerge.
"Mother wallaby Aja can hardly contain her excitement and love as her little joey pokes her nose out for the first time," footage from the zoo shows.

The joey will live in its mama's pouch for over another month, but if you're lucky, you can capture this rare sight of the little guy when you visit.
