Manslaughter Charges Pending for Man Arrested in Connection to Deadly Rancho Mirage Crash,

A man has been arrested in connection to the deadly crash on Highway 111 this week which claimed the life of an elderly Rancho Mirage woman, and injured her husband, police said Thursday.
28-year-old Scott Bahls, of Palm Springs, was booked into the Indio jail on felony charges of vehicle manslaughter with gross negligence, according to jail records. He was first arrested on Tuesday, but officials didn't announce his identity until Thursday.
According to news reports, Bahls is suspected of street-racing prior to the crash on Tuesday.
81-year-old Barbara Schmitz of Rancho Mirage died at Eisenhower Medical Center about two hours after the 3 p.m. crash on Hwy 111 and Dunes View Road, according to coroner's reports.
The Desert Sun is reporting that Barbara and her husband Gerald would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this Friday.
Jail records indicate Bahls was released from jail on $50,000 bail Wednesday.
