Martha's Village & Kitchen Celebrates 28 Years of Service
Martha's Village & Kitchen will celebrate 28 years of service on April 10.

From Martha’s Village & Kitchen: Martha’s Village & Kitchen, a vital component of the Coachella Valley’s safety net for the impoverished and homeless, is proud to celebrate 28 years of service on April 10, 2018. On this day, the agency reaches the 28-year milestone of providing life-changing programs addressing needs and providing solutions for the most vulnerable in The Valley.
Martha’s began in 1990 when the founders served meals to their homeless neighbors with a donation of $5.00. The organization has come a long way since these humble beginnings and has grown to be one of the largest providers of homeless services in the Coachella Valley, serving over 6000 people each year from its campus in Indio, CA.
The agency serves almost a quarter of a million meals each year. It has the capacity to house 120 homeless children, women and men each night in the Residential Program. Martha’s Village & Kitchen’s clients come from all walks of life, and no two individuals or families are the same. Seniors on fixed incomes, those experiencing the loss of a job, the loss of a home, overwhelming medical expenses and fleeing domestic violence are among the thousands of people who seek Martha’s for help each year.

To further the mission of transforming the lives of the impoverished and homeless, Martha’s operates a variety of programs and services. Among these unique and life-changing resources are: Food Services, Transitional Housing, Children’s Services, Career and Education, individualized Case Management and Emergency Assistance. Through these programs, many find hope and the strength to regain their lives by becoming responsible, self-sufficient and productive citizens.
For the next 28 years and beyond, Martha’s Village & Kitchen is committed to providing hunger relief in the community, housing those with nowhere to call home, and creating the opportunity for struggling and hurting community members to overcome seemingly unsurpassable obstacles. Toward that end, the agency is launching a $5 million campaign “MVK: Renewing Hope, Rebuilding Lives.” The campaign’s objectives fall into four major categories: Child Development, Food Services, Culinary/Job Training Program, and Building, Shelter Space Improvements and Safety Upgrades. The campaign will help to meet the needs and change lives of the growing population of the impoverished and homeless in the Coachella Valley.

Without the generous support of community partners, donors, and volunteers, Martha’s would not be able to continue this important work. On this 28th anniversary, Martha’s would like to sincerely thank all who have supported the organization and shown tremendous compassion for the homeless and those experiencing poverty in the community. It truly takes a Village to help those in need!
