PALM SPRINGS, CA — The Palm Springs treatment center Michael's House is 35 years old and will celebrate the anniversary of helping those suffering from substance use and addiction in a special event, organizers say.
In 1989, Arlene Rosen founded Michael's House after losing her son, Michael, to a drug overdose. Since that time, Rosen has devoted her life to the treatment center bearing her son's name.
She made it her goal to help others suffering from substance use and addiction at the Palm Springs facility. Among the more recent initiatives of Michael's House is the distribution of lifesaving Naloxone to unhoused individuals in the community last August.

The facility runs an accredited treatment program and is nationally recognized for integrated and evidence-based methods that guide patients with addiction and mental health disorders toward long-term recovery, according to the website. Its graduates are considered alumni, and many who have entered the doors say the experience was life-altering.
"Since 1989, Michael's House has helped over 8,500 individuals in their recovery journey," a spokesperson for the treatment center said. "Our mission today is still the same as it was when Arlene founded Michael's House - to provide hope and recovery for those affected by substance use and mental health issues."
