Palm Desert Aquatic Center Kicks Off July With Poolside Fireworks
Plus, several other things happening at the center in July!

From Palm Desert Aquatic Center: Palm Desert Aquatic Center (PDAC) kicks off 4th of July! Gates open at 11 a.m. until sundown, followed by the spectacular Palm Desert Civic Center Fireworks Show. Also in July, the Dive-in Movie program continues, and adult learn to swim lessons will be offered for free. While PDAC is an inexpensive option compared to other water parks in the valley, it also regularly offers water fitness classes, and is available for birthday party space and cabana rentals.
Put on by the City of Palm Desert, the fireworks show will begin at dark. Guests can enjoy the show from the pool, lounge chairs, table seating or along with large grassy areas surrounding the pools. Those attending are encouraged to arrive early for parking lot access as Magnesia Falls Drive will close at 4 p.m. and reopen after the fireworks. Those coming after 4 p.m. can park on Magnesia Falls Drive east of Portola Avenue as well as at Magnesia Falls Park. Parking at the neighboring Civic Center is open until 6 p.m. with access from Fred Waring Drive.
The PDAC Dive-in movie is Friday, July 6, featuring Disney’s popular animated hit, “Moana.” The gates open at 7 p.m. with the splash playground and sildes open 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Enjoy playing in the recreation pool and zero depth during the movie, the movie will be playing on a giant screen at sundown. Tickets are $4 per person (no charge for children under 2) and can now be pre-purchased at the front desk window at PDAC, or at the time of event until sold out. The Splash Shack will be open for a variety of snacks.
Swim lessons also continue in July with two sessions, July 2 – 12, and July 16 – 26. While kids are learning to swim or advance their skills, adults are invited to join for free swim lessons if they have never learned how. Drowning is the leading injury-related cause of death in California for kids under age five, and according to the USA Swimming Foundation, last summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day there were at least 163 children younger than age 15 who fatally drowned in swimming pools or spas. One of the best preventative measures for such tragedies is to learn how to swim and teach your child how to swim.
