PALM DESERT, CA — A quarter-mile section of road in Palm Desert is undergoing heavy roadwork through Tuesday, Coachella Valley Water District reported. Pipeline work along Hovley Lane East will require at least one lane to be shut down, delaying drive-time traffic.

According to the Coachella Valley Water District, crews hired by the utility will be working on Hovley Lane East, between Indian Ridge and Oasis Club drives, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. By Wednesday, traffic in that area should return to normal.

"Portions of the westbound lane will be closed," according to a CVWD statement. "Closures will be marked, and at least one lane will remain open. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible."

When the project is complete, four golf courses on or near Hovley will be converted to the CVWD's non-potable water system. Laying the new pipe necessitates periodic lane or road closures, officials said.
