PALM SPRINGS, CA — Palm Springs International Airport set a record for passenger traffic in June, its fourth consecutive month of record numbers.

"We continue to set records at a time we previously thought would still be below pre-pandemic levels," Executive Director of Aviation Harry Barrett said in a statement. "... We've experienced an unexpected and unprecedented level of growth in the past year."

The airport reported a total of 142,524 passengers in June, beating the record from June 2021 by 9.7%. March, April and May passenger levels all bested records set in 2019.

January and February were the only months this year that saw a slowdown in passenger volume, but airport officials blamed it on a surge in COVID-19 cases over the winter.

"While we traditionally slow down in the summer, this year it's busier than we've ever seen it," Barrett said. "With new summer routes from Southwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and aha! we have more summer nonstop routes, airlines and flights than in any previous summer."
