Funds raised will strengthen two key priorities of Rotary’s service to our community -- literacy and youth programs.

The club’s literacy program comprises:

· Distributing 5,000 dictionaries and thesauruses purchased by Rotary to local elementary schools

· $500 grants to six elementary schools to purchase books for their libraries

· Purchasing two books per teacher at every grade level for Lincoln Elementary K-5 students. Lincoln Elementary was adopted by the Rotary Club to participate in the national Read Across America program

Stater Bros. is a generous $6,000 sponsor of Rotary’s Literacy Program and funds raised will augment additional book purchases for the program.

As part of its youth programs, Rotary also conducts two leadership camps for high school and middle school students -- RYLA and PRYDE.

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a three-day conference to further develop leadership skills of outstanding high school students. RYLA combines learning in a casual, relaxed atmosphere with social and fun time to provide a fast-paced and memorable leadership experience.

PRYDE is the acronym for Personal Rotary Youth Development Experience, a leadership retreat for area 7th grade students selected for their leadership potential. The two-day camp is designed to enhance a student’s personal abilities and give them the opportunity to meet and share ideas with other leaders.

There is no direct cost to participants for either camp. Funds raised by Rotary’s Pancake Breakfast underwrite RYLA’s $350 fee and PRYDE’s $250 fee.

At noon after the breakfast, watch the Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Golf Cart Parade on El Paseo. Golf cart decorations this year “Celebrate our own Super Heroes.”
