• First responders preview Battle of the Badges ahead of October boxing event (kesq.com) — Palm Desert residents can look forward to the Coachella Valley Battle of the Badges boxing event at Civic Center Park on Saturday, Oct. 17, featuring police, firefighters, and other first responders. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the first bout at 7 p.m., offering a community-focused night of amateur boxing and interaction with public safety personnel from across Southern California.
   

• National Philanthropy Day honors outstanding philanthropic foundation (desertsun.com) — Students in the Coachella Valley, including those supported through Palm Desert Rotary's scholarship partnership, are benefiting from the expanding Carreón Foundation, which now awards hundreds of thousands in aid and mentorship. The foundation has broadened eligibility to more racial and ethnic groups, dramatically increased scholarship totals, and will be honored at National Philanthropy Day on Nov. 6 in Rancho Mirage.
