PD Boys Struggle at CIF Golf Team Finals
Aztecs finish 20th; Servite wins for 3-peat as CIF Champs
The Palm Desert High boys fell short in their quest for a CIF golf team championship, finishing in 20th place with a score of 398.
Anaheim/Servite had four of their five scoring players shoot under 75 at the Mission Lakes Country Club to score 371 for their third consecutive CIF-Southern Section title.
The Mission Lakes course played with very fast greens under perfect playing conditions Thursday. A club official said it was the first day this week that high winds weren’t a major factor at the Desert Hot Springs course.

The speed of the greens caused headaches for the Aztecs.
“We just didn’t putt well,” Coach Jack Stewart told Patch. “The greens here are very difficult, if you’re above the pin, you’re almost going to 3-putt every time. It’s a great golf course, it’s one we don’t get to play that often, and [a course] we should play more often to get a little more experience.”

The fact should be underscored that Palm Desert is a very young team, with only one senior. That fact isn’t lost on Stewart.
“We haven’t been here [CIF Finals] for three or four years, so it’s a good experience for the boys. We’ll be better next year.”
Westlake’s Brock Drogosch shot a medal round 68, as his team won a tie breaker to finish second ahead of Santa Maria/Righetti at 374. Santa Margarita’s 376 was good enough for fourth place.
The top four teams advance to the SCGA/CIF Team Finals.
Alec Demetre had the low round of 78 for Palm Desert, one shot better than Beau McDermid and Conner Mog. Kacey Hammond finished with an 80, while Brendan Regan’s 82 rounded out the Aztec scoring.
