Police Chase Takes Detour Through Golf Course

The driver of a stolen pickup truck allegedly drove the truck into a golf course lake in a pursuit in Palm Springs Tuesday, a police sergeant said.

Officers tried to stop the 2003 blue Toyota Tundra -- which had been reported stolen in Palm Springs on Monday -- near Sunny Dunes Road and Sunrise Way about 8:20 a.m. The driver didn’t stop, and a short chase ensued, Palm Springs police Sgt. Paul Abshire said.

“The pursuit ended when the vehicle drove onto the Tahquitz Creek Golf (Resort) and became partially submerged in a lake,” Abshire said.

The driver and passenger weren’t hurt, he said.

Driver Fidel Miranda-Boyzo, 23, of Cathedral City, was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and evading a police officer, and was booked in lieu of $100,000 bail. Passenger Jasmin Vivanco, 20, of Cathedral City, was arrested on suspicion of resisting a police officer; bail information wasn’t immediately available.
